Facebook pages, as opposed to personal profiles, allow you to showcase your business, brand, product, or organization or to give an artist, band, or public figure a Facebook presence. Let's have a look at how to create a page.

Who can create an official page?

How do I create a page?

First of all, you need to have your own personal profile on Facebook. Your personal profile is the basis upon which you can have multiple pages, for example for different businesses or products. Here is the step-by-step procedure:

1. Go to the screen 'Create a Page'

There might be different versions of Facebook that will give you different access to this page. One that has always worked for me so far is by clicking on the 'Help' link on the bottom right of every Facebook page. Under the heading 'Ads and Business Solutions,' you will find a link for 'Pages for Businesses' - click there. From the list given choose 'Creating and administering your Page' or something along those lines. You will be guided to a list of questions around Facebook Pages. This is a good resource page for you to learn more about how to use them. In the current version, there is a question how can I create a Page?' which will give you a direct link to - finally - the 'Create a Page' page.

Another simpler way is to join the 'Facebook Marketing Solutions' page, which you can find via the search box, click on 'Resources', and about halfway down the middle column you will find an enlarged blue link 'Create your page now.

If you're lucky and Facebook hasn't changed it you might also find the link to 'Create a Page' on any other page (not personal pages but business pages). Simply scroll down to the bottom of the left column and you will find the link. That's the easiest and quickest option.

2. Add your details

Simply fill in the form, choosing from the options for local business, brand, product, or organization or artist, band, or public figure. Enter a page name. Make sure you are decided about the name as this is one thing you won't be able to change. Tick the box below agreeing that you're the official representative.

3. Start your page

Once you have clicked on the 'Create your Official Page' you will have a temporary page appear and the steps that you now need to take to get it up and running: Add an image (profile picture), invite your friends, tell your fans, post status updates, promote this page on your website and you may even want to set up your mobile phone for updates.

Simple! Now it's time to use it wisely, starting by adding content and inviting your friends to join. Remember to post things like updates, photos, notes, etc regularly to keep people interested and returning to your page.
